Antipodean Beauties - Spooky

This post is just RIDICULOUSLY late, but hey, better late than never!

As a not entirely unreconstructed Goth, I was pretty excited when the "Spooky" theme came up on Antipodean Beauties. While I'm still not 100 per cent clear on what a "neutral" eye is actually supposed to look like, spooky makeup I can do with my eyes closed.

So I got out my palest foundation, my whitest powder, and my blackest eyeliner and set out to recreate a look I was obsessed with as a little Gothling.

Yes, I did actually go out like this. Rather a lot actually. Usually wearing cheap PVC.

I have to admit, I was a little crushed to realise I don't actually own a lipstick dark enough to recreate this look authentically anymore.  However I did attempt it on hot day, so the eyeliner has an authentically club smeared kind of edge to it.

If anyone is interested, I used Detrivore Cosmetics loose eyeshadows to get nice dark smokey eyes (their matte black Mortician is INSANELY pigmented), and then dabbed on some Benefit Erase Paste to make a nice even base. I slathered on a good layer of Maybelline Superstay Silky foundation, and powdered all over with Physician's Formula Glow Pearls in Translucent. I finished it off with one of my trusty Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stains, since that was the darkest colour I apparently have now.

Perhaps the most amusing thing to me about attempting this look is that I would have KILLED to have been able to do makeup this good as quickly and easily as I can now back in the day. Here's a highly embarrassing, very low resolution period photo to give you some point of comparison.

I know, I know, I was ridiculous. To my credit, the dress wasn't mine - it was my housemate's wedding dress. It was a pretty special sharehouse...but that's another story for another time.

Even though I'm putting this up a full week behind, you should be sure to check out the lovely bloggers who managed to complete the theme on time!
