As a participant in the Blog Fest, piCture pOlish sent me three shades of polish, with the request that I let my imagination run wild in creating a manicure that would show off all three colours.
I was, I'll admit, a little stumped when these three showed up in my package. They're all great colours, but I'm usually very big on using totally complimentary shades in my manis, so I wasn't quite sure how to put them all together. But then I remembered an art style that's all about the clashing colours - pop art!
Happily pop art is also big on straight lines and dots, both of which I can do quite easily, so here is what I came up with.
In order to create this look yourself, it's actually quite simple. All you will need is;
- three plain colour polishes, that cover well in one coat. piCture pOlish plain colours are the perfect consistency for this.
- masking tape
- a dotting tool
First cut your masking tape to length. In order to make these shapes, you will need a triangle peice, and two straight peices for each nail. Then lay down a nice smooth coat of your base colour- in this case I chose piCture pOlish Marine, a beautiful aqua blue.
I reccomend putting a thin layer of quick dry topcoat over this, and then let it dry really thoroughly to prevent the tape sticking to the base colour. At least 15 minutes is best.
Once it's dry, carefully place your tape pieces over the base colour. Place the triange piece in the middle of the nail first, then mask off the top and the bottom of the hail like so.
Then go over the tape with one even coat of the colour you want the stripes to be - in this case I used Camo. Then gently take the tape back off, as quickly as possible so the polish doesn't dry. Tweezers are quite handy for this, and I find it easiest to do it one nail at a time. Tape, then paint, then tweeze, rinse and repeat for each nail until you're done.
Once all your stripes are in place and the tape is all gone, it's time to get out your dotting tool (or a very fine brush if you have a steady hand) and pop a nice even row of dots in the last colour over your stripes. And then, dadah, you're all done!
piCture pOlish is available internationally from their website, and there will be lots more posts around the nail blogging community as part of the Blog Fest, so be sure to keep an eye out!
Please add your BlogFest mani to the list and grab the code to put it on your blog.
