Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Welcome dear friends to what happens to be my 100th post!

Just like on my actual birthday, I don't want to get too serious - instead, let's have some fun looking at some nail art I did last night that I am unbelievably proud of.

I got a little bottle of blue holo stars from the discount store down the road weeks ago, swearing I was going to do something nail related with them, despite not actually having used rhinestones or studs or any of that sort of thing before. They were just too freaking cute to leave there!

I've been building up my collection of Sally Hansen polishes recently thanks to some excellent sales, and I finally got my hands on one of the Sally Hansen Nail Art pens I've been eyeballing for ages at a reasonable price. While doodling aimlessly with it on my nails, I got An Idea - and for the first time with nail art, I actually managed to make it come out the way I wanted it to.

First I put down a nice glassy base of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in A Mermaid's Tale. Compared to some of the indie glitters I have, it's a bit lacking in actual glitter, but the base is the absolute perfect consistency to get the glitters it does have to float in a nice smooth jelly.

Then I attempted some tape striping to create some radiating rays of plain teal over the top, using Salon Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Jaded - the Complete Salon Manicure polishes are the closest to a one coat polish I've found, and one coaters work best for tape striping.

In hindsight, I probably should have gone with a brighter green, but I kept on towards my Idea all the same. Next up was some nice star type radiant lines, with my new Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen (man, this is starting to sound like a sponsored peice for Sally Hansen. Just so we're clear, it's not). The application on this was pretty good - the pen shape makes it super easy to put the polish right where you want it. The formula is however a teeny bit thinner than I would have liked - you have to use the pen more as a self inking dotting tool than a pen as such to get even lines. The upside of the thin formula however, is that if you apply it over topcoat and stuff it up, you can just get a damp cotton ball and wipe your slate clean - not that I had to do this of course. (I totally did this, more than once)

And finally, I added a teeny little star to the centre of each nail. This part was WAY easier than I thought it would be. Because the stars were relatively heavy (compared to loose glitter for example), I could just pick them up with the brush from my topcoat, then pat them gently into place. And voila, I was done!
