I'm The Spare Driver! Emily de Molly Bright Young Things Review

You might have noticed I very rarely do a straight up nail polish post around here. I usually find some bit of mythology, or fashion, or feminism to drag into it. Today I've got two things to recommend to you - the polish Bright Young Things from the ridiculously talented Emily de Molly, and the movie Bright Young Things, written and directed by the ridiculously talented Stephen Fry.

Femme Fatale Megapost!

The lovely people at Femme Fatale Cosmetics were kind enough to send me some polishes to review, and surprising absolutely no-one, my "Must Buy" list from Femme Fatale is now twice as long. I've almost exclusively bought their amazing glitterbomb polishes in the past, because absolutely no-one does mega sparkly gorgeousness like Femme Fatale. However, the samples I was sent included a refreshing change of pace as three out of the four were creamy, girly glitters.

Out of the three creamier polishes, Sparkleshell is my favourite. It looks like the quieter, politer little sister of Veil of the Siren, which I reviewed here. It's surprisingly complex on the nail, with lots of different sizes and shapes of glitter as well as a smattering of tiny golden iridescent particles, and reminds me perfectly of seashells. These pictures are two coats over Illamasqua Scorch - you could possibly build this up on it's own, but the base is quite sheer, so if you're impatient like me I would recommend putting it over your favourite neutral.

Put A Ring On It

I got this ring from Etsy a little while ago, and I've been wearing it quite a bit. It's lovely, much more comfortable than you would think from the size, and also quite significant - because it's not significant at all.

I'm 32 dang years old, and this is the first ring I've worn for any period of time that isn't emotionally significant.

Taking the Low Road - Jubly-Umph Originals

The division between low brow and high brow art has always fascinated me. Way back in the way back times I was dating a boy who was finishing his degree in Fine Art, and we would have some enormous "discussions"about what did and did not qualify as art. At the time, I was pretty disinterested in modern art as a whole. I much preferred the old masters section of the gallery, and could spend hours ogling the delicate brushstrokes, and incredible way the light is captured in a Rembrandt.

I turned my nose up at things like installation artworks and abstracts. I didn't consider these things "serious" or "proper"art, and my boyfriend furiously disagreed. He was very fond of the hard-edge abstractionist school of art, which looks to an untrained eye such as myself to be just shapes. Very nicely done, crisp shapes, but just shapes. Sometimes lines. My boyfriend was big into lines in his own work.

Waving, but Drowing a Little Too

Firstly, can I just say I hate being all "woe is me" to the great gaping maw of the internet? I'm bad enough at this sort of thing with people I'm close to. But part of the whole deal where you pay attention to my ramblings is that I feel like I should be as honest as I can be with y'all. Besides, enforced sharing is good for me.

And You Thought Your Ex Was Bad - Perspehone by Shades of Phoenix

Shades of Phoenix has sadly been off the market for a little while, as the owner had to move and APPARENTLY this means they can't also be pumping out awesome nail polish as well. But the good news is that Shades of Phoenix is back as of 6PM tonight! They are restocking the original collection - including the ones I reviewed way back in the way back times - but they are also launching a brand new collection called Let's Hear It For The Girls. Every polish is inspired by a female figure from Greek mythology, and I'm delighted to show you the one inspired by Persephone.

Persephone is one of my favourite figures in Greek mythology behind Cassandra (obviously) and so I had pretty high hopes for this one - happily, not only were my expectations met, but WELL exceeded. I've seriously never seen anything quite like this.

Yes, these are my toys. No, they are not from when I was little.

I remember reading somewhere when I was quite small that Capricorns tend the age backwards - they start off alarmingly serious children, and slowly grow up into ridiculously childish pensioners. Being a Capricorn and thus an alarmingly serious child, I thought this was total bunkum, but nowadays I wonder if there was any truth to it. I've found myself getting more and more comfortable with the things I tried to pretend I didn't love as a child - whereas once I could read books I pretended I didn't like cartoons anymore, now I will happily collect VHS copies of HR Puff'n'Stuff.
